This is THE best Glazed Christmas ham ever! I’m claiming it as the best. However it may not be the best because we haven’t tried them all. However, when we first ate it in 2008, we were all sitting around the table and this ham was placed on the table. It looked and smelt amazing. And boy did it taste good. We were all shiny and full.
The next year, I asked my step mother for the recipe and we cooked it at our Christmas. It was just as delicious as we remembered. Friends now cook it every year and if we don’t make it for some reason, my brother is always visibly disappointed.
Shoulder ham or leg ham
1/4 Cup of White wine
1/4 Cup of Lemon juice
1/2 Cup of Orange or Apple juice
1/2 Cup Brown sugar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Ground All Spice
2 tablespoons Honey
1/2 Teaspoon of Grated ginger
Cut a thick layer of fat off the ham.
Score ham (criss-cross cuts).
Stick whole cloves in the ham, on the crosses.
Mix all the ingredients together well.
Pour the mixture over the ham and bake in oven 180c degrees for about one and a half hours.
You can check it and baste it as you please.
And that’s it. Then you eat it. And be happy. Eat it with a crunchy sourdough with too much butter. Eat it with salad. Eat it with your hands. Eat it however you want.
