When you plan a weekend away with your girlfriends, 12 of them, who for the first time, are not pregnant, breastfeeding or bringing a newborn along, you want to relax. You want to have fun. You want to forget about the nappies and school runs, working, cooking and practical footwear.
We plan our getaways in advance, months in advance (which you can read about HERE) and we make sure that everyone’s needs are met and everyone’s what ‘A weekend away’ means to them.
First up was accommodation. We searched online for a place that could house us all in Melbourne’s CBD. We stayed in a giant home in the Blue Mountains for one of our getaways which was fantastic, but we knew we would need some apartment style rooms for this getaway. Our own beds, room for all our bags of outfits we didn’t end up wearing and central to everything we wanted to do. Plus 3 bathrooms. 12 women all getting ready at the same time requires space! We also wanted to sit around eating cheese and drinking wine, so room size was a must. We found Pegasus Apart’Hotel on Scoopon. It ticked all the boxes so we booked!
After speaking with Pegasus, they let us know about their restaurant and asked if we would like to be their guests. We decided it would be the perfect fit for our first night in. We had all travelled from around the country and walked around Melbourne all day and knew that something close, where we didn’t have to dress up or book would be perfect. We were treated to delicious meals that their Executive Chef, Mick Stafford recommended and spent a few hours relaxing downstairs. I recommend the lamb ribs and their flourless chocolate cake if you ever do visit. We also may have drank some very pretty cocktails in the hotel bar in happy hour over the weekend. There was a very relaxed vibe and all sitting around laughing before we went out, is one of my favourite memories of our trip.
What I did notice about the hotel was that it was very family friendly. Even though my kids weren’t with me, I am always thinking about what I am doing and whether they would like it or not. I know that we have a much better time when our kids are happy and enjoying themselves so when I saw that they had kid themed suites with toys and entertainment was an option, I made a mental note. If I can keep my kids happy and occupied in exchange for an extra hour in bed in the morning, i’ll take it!
Pegasus were kind enough to offer an exclusive deal for you to enjoy their hotel and are offering a 20% discount when you book 3 or more nights which includes a 20% off Food and Beverage voucher, for stays up until October 26th. New Bookings only. Feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org and ask for The Everyday Mums Deal. www.pegasus.com.au
Now, Tattoo’s aren’t on every girl’s weekend away to do list but it was on ours. 8 women of our group of 12 got inked. Many for the first time. Enter Vic Market Tattoo. The guys there were so friendly and accommodating, especially because it was only decided on 15 minutes before we turned up. The girls left happy, and with an envelope filled with dares written by the tattoo artists, for us to put into action on our Night out. They provided some serious laughs. vicmarkettattoo.com
One of the things I love most about running The Everyday Mums is working with businesses who are so excited about their brand. Wanderloud wanted to know if they could document our weekend and take some shots for us. We opted for a fun photoshoot on a very cool Winter afternoon but I can totally imagine beautiful photos of an afternoon picnic with your besties or a surprise birthday party for a friend. Augusta, Wanderloud’s Melbourne photographer was super nice and fun. She made all of us feel quite comfortable even though this was unlike anything most of us had done before. We were headed on a night out, hence the heels. We don’t usually frolick through playgrounds and parks as a group. The photos turned out fantastic and everyone has a different favourite image. Wanderloud’s aim is to allow you to enjoy your time and they will capture all the special moments happening around you on your holiday adventure, all over the world. We have so many great photos now of our weekend away, it is such a good idea. wanderloud.com
I had come across Fonda on Instagram through my daily scrolls and asked if they had space for a group of 12 for dinner. We wanted somewhere fun and delicious, where we could eat and drink and enjoy ourselves. And we are so glad we went. Such a super fun atmosphere and with awesome staff who laughed along and joked with us. I’d go back there in a heartbeat. What’s better than tacos and margaritas? www.fonda.com.au
After dinner, we wanted to dance. We caught 2 ubers. Which by the way, we can’t fault. Uber was used so many times over the weekend and everyone was happy. Well, the Uber drivers may not have been happy with drunken screeching women inside their cars. But we were happy. We headed to Club Retro. 3 levels, music we knew and drinks. More drinks. We danced and sung (well, yelled) and we laughed. Let our hair down and sung Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, because it totally represented our weekend. www.clubretro.com.au
What I love most about Melbourne is seeing my family. Being a Sydney Sider, any opportunity I have when I visit Melbourne, I orchestrate a meet up for however long. A drink or a coffee. Something. I am blessed that my dad and brother organised their day to meet me and when they picked the Café for me to meet them at, I was so awesomely excited. Across the road from our hotel was Operator25. There was a line, no surprises there, but it was well worth it. I ordered Matcha Waffles with Green Tea Ice cream. Now don’t get scared, this place makes an awesome Bacon and Egg roll as well. I know this because my dad ordered it and he was all smiles. www.operator25.com.au
Now of course, there are 1 million amazing things to do in Melbourne and I wished we had more than three days. You cannot argue with Melbourne’s food and its vibe. We really enjoyed our time and would not change a thing about our trip.
