How do I join The Everyday Mums Facebook Group?

To request to join the group, click the ‘Join Now’ button (top right of the page).

Why was my request to join rejected?

To ensure the safety of our community, we look at all profile pages before accepting requests. If your privacy settings are too high and we are unable to establish that you’re a ‘real person’, then we may refuse your request. If you would like to join, you will need to reduce your privacy settings while we approve. As soon as you have been accepted into the group,  you can revert them back. Or we may contact you via Messenger for further verification.

We only accept requests from people with real names. We do not accept requests from business pages. If you would like to join, it must be from your personal profile.

How do I post a question?

Go to the The Everyday Mums Facebook group, and write your question in the ‘Write Post’ field. Don’t email the question to admin unless it is an anonymous question.

Are there any rules?

In order to ensure the group runs smoothly, we have a number of guidelines in place. All members should read the Group Guidelines before posting on the group. But in summary, the rules are:

  • Be kind. We are big believers in karma and treating others the way you want to be treated. If you wouldn’t say it face to face, don’t say it.
  • Remember that all medical advice shared is NOT professional help.
  • Don’t post stuff for sale, wanted ads or garage sales. Look up your local Buy Swap Sell group for that.
  • Don’t badmouth businesses (or people).

Where has my post gone?

Posts are ‘bumped’ to the top of the group page whenever someone comments, but unless it is commented on frequently, posts can move very quickly down the page. You can either scroll, or use the search function (magnifying glass icon in the top right corner).

If you have searched for your post and cannot find it, it may have been deleted by Admin because it didn’t comply with the Group Guidelines.

How do I alert admin about a post in the group?

If you are on a computer, click on the down arrow in the top right corner of the relevant posts, and select ‘Report to Admin’.

Who can see my posts?

The Everyday Mums is a ‘Closed’ Group, which means that people either need to be added by an existing member, or they need to ask to join. Anyone on Facebook can see the group name and members, but only group members can see posts in the group. So don’t worry, your boss or ex-boyfriend won’t be able to see what your writing (unless they are a member of the group).

Please be aware that whatever you post is on a public forum (despite being a ‘closed’ group) and is visible to all members. Don’t post anything on it that you don’t want your neighbour to know.

How do I change notifications?

Once you are on the group page, click on ‘Notifications’. Then you can choose to see ‘All Posts’, ‘Friends’ Posts’, or ‘Off’.

How do I search for an old post?

If you are looking for a post, but can’t find it by scrolling down the page (can get a little tedious), there is actually a ‘Search’ function (only if you are on a computer, not a phone). It’s the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner, near ‘notifications’.

How do I post an Anonymous question?

If you have a question where you don’t want to identify yourself, we occasionally post anonymous questions on behalf of members. If you would like to post anonymously to The Everyday Mums Facebook group, click here to submit your question. Please understand that we cannot publish all requests.

Someone says they have sent me a PM, but I can’t see it?

Facebook filters all messages from people you are not friends with into an ‘Others’ folder. This folder is only accessible from a PC or iPad (not your smart phone). Click on ‘Messages’, then you will see ‘Others’ next to you Inbox. If you’ve never looked in here before, you may be surprised by how many ‘other’ messages you have!

How do I tag another member?

If you want to alert admin or another member about a post that they might be interested in, simply @ symbol followed by their name. The admins for the group are @Lisa Dreyer and @Jess Grima

Can I post a job ad in the group?

We do not allow members to post about looking for work.

I run a Facebook group or page. Can I promote it in your FB group?

If you run a not-for-profit community Facebook group or page, you are allowed to post about it during Bargain Hour (Every Tuesday night 8-10pm) or Small Business Saturday. You can also suggest it if relevant in response to a specific question from a member in the group. Posts at any other time are not allowed.

I write a blog. Can I promote it in your FB group?

If you write a personal blog, you are allowed to post about it during Small Business Saturday. Posts at any other time are not allowed.

Can I post about fundraising for a charity?

As we are unable to verify the legitimacy of any requests for donations, we do not allow any posts asking for money or good donations.

How do I contact the admin of The Everyday Mums Facebook Group?
