If you’re a parent you might not be familiar with the concept but date night is a process of leaving the house with just your partner and going out to have some one on one time together. It could include seeing a movie, going to a nice restaurant or even an outdoors adventure.
When Nicole and I only had Riley and we were a family of three people would happily offer to have Riley pop over for a visit so I could take Nicole out. That time out together was so refreshingly beautiful! When Boston came along and the equation turned into two cheeky rascals to take care of our support team quickly diminished, haha!! Nicole and I are very rarely get lucky enough to get a night out together now, which just makes those nights even more special. For most of the time if we want to watch that new movie or clear our head we end up going out with a friend while the other stays home with the boys.
Last night we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. We decided that nothing was going to get in the way of us having a minuet amount of ‘us’ time. We booked a sitter who was absolutely amazing and headed off to our secret destination. I had kept our location a secret because I was taking Nicole to one of the finest restaurants in our area and by finest I mean that their basic menu would put you back at least a day’s wage per plate!
We arrived and walked towards the bar where we sat for drinks while our table was being prepared. Nicole was starving because like a lot of Mum’s she had barely eaten all day. (I always get stroppy with her for not taking time to take care of her self but she’s always thinking about the boys first). Anyway, we ask for a menu in preparation so we could order as quickly as possible. Keep in mind that when I made the initial booking I pre-warned the staff that my wife was a very picky eater but they assured me that being an Italian restaurant she would find something that she liked. Looking through the menu it became clear that that was not the case. Is it weird that when they said they we an Italian restaurant I assumed pizza and pasta?
We awkwardly apologised, I paid for the drinks and asked the waiter to take our picture so we could remember the situation in years to come because it was so hilarious. The waiter even helped sneak us out the back way to save us from the walk of shame, Haha! The night ended up with us walking on the beach and eating from our favourite Italian restaurant that actually sells pizza and pasta.
Basically the whole night was an epic win! We had so much fun together being carefree. It was almost like we got to reconnect all over again.
Nicole and I will definitely be making date nights a priority from now onwards! It’s so nice being able to go to a restaurant and not chase after kids, stress about them making too much noise or breaking something. I genuinely feel anxious when we take the kids out for dinner and it’s not like we go any where fancy with them, it’s always child friendly places but my kids (Riley) are (is) so flippen crazy!!
Thank you for the 5 beautiful years of marriage Nicole and the 9 years of being my partner. I’m so incredibly lucky to be with a girl that still cracks me up, understands me and supports me as much as you do. You’re an unselfish woman, caring mother, loyal partner in crime and the love of my life. Thank you for sticking with me through sickness and health.
xx Love you!
